Yes, I agree.. those roaches need to be crushed down with good governance..Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unique_Identification_Authority_of_India)) project is the first step of that process to have transparency to credit system, risk assessment, tax accountability, govt spending, crime control and so many others.. ... OPT is just a bandaid that allows politicians to postpone addressing the real issues for a little while. If the real probably are not addressed in 2 years when the OPTs run out it will actually be worse.

I have taken mine and my wife's pic using digital camera, and took the card to the walmart. They have the software where you can set the passport size. 6 photos printout costed us 30 cents each. If you have digital camera take 640X480 photo with good light. This is the best option instead of going to walgreens which chargs 2 photos 8 dollars.
USCIS is very particular about the background , shadows and lighting. Unless you have a near professional lighting in your home , you are taking a risk. The flash light you use in camera creates a shadow on the subject and/or in the back ground. That is not acceptable. Unless you have a decent camera and you know what you are doing , it is very easy to over expose in close-up shots. Be very careful.

That said, it is not a wild assumption that a decision on a I-485 application cannot be made in 6 months, all of those who are not retrogressed get it in that time frame...
Further, since the DMV actually checks the status with USCIS... (in most states) why would they care what the document says ?
I just got back from a lengthy fight with my local and state DMV offices to convince them I'm legal to continue having a drivers license. I'm EB, in the adjustment of status stage since July 2007. DMV asked me recently for proof for status check. I took the pending I-485 receipt and while they told me it is an acceptable proof, they said they have a rule that if the document has no expiration date, they can only give you a driver license with validity 6 months beyond the receipt date of your document (with the wild assumption that any I-485 application is approved or denied within 6 months)
I have nothing against local government and their agencies enforcing immigration, but if you won't give your staff the necessary training to comprehend what legal immigration status is then it will be a disaster

My PERM was filed on 30th March, approved on Aug 11th, received approval copy on 18th Aug, and I-140 to be filed this week.
There was a lot of prep work involved before filing PERM in March. My employer agreed to start the process in Oct'09 and the lawyers started the ads in early Jan.

A PhD does not automatically qualify you for EB1. There are a lot of other requirements. Unless you are in a research or teaching job, it's hard for PhD's to qualify for EB1. Besides, there's the small matter of getting an H-1B or O-1.
If she has a PHD in CSE she should look for a job get H1 and file Green Card in EB1 all off this can be done in 6 months! What's holding you back???? :)

Trust me. You would see an approval this month. Most of the people who got an LUD on their approved I-140 on 07/13/2008 are seeing their GC approved. Only uncertain people are those who hasn't seen any such light.

I think that the DOS (Dept of State) releases VISA Numbers on a quarterly basis. If that is the case, there should be movement in EB2 India in Jan 2007.
