Introducing: The Bow Tie

Runway Show Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2010 Ready to Wear

Pairing a loud bow with a slackened white tunic easily brings attention to your new eye catching accessory. If you are feeling brave, paint your lips with a shade ranging from pink to red, depending on the shade of your bow. Hair Bow-tie Matching Tips:

Do's:
Colorful bow with white, or pastel colored tunic.

Match the color of the bow with your eye shadow or lip shade or nails polish shade.

Wear a bow if you want to make an impression of innocence mixed with a fashion forward mind.

Pair a bow with a high wasted skirt made out of the same, or similar, material of the bow. This will give your look a consistent flow. However, make sure the skirt rises at least 3 inches above your knees to avoid looking like a conservative 8 year old girl.

Pair a funky, or chic, large bow with an elegant pair of flats.

Don'ts:
Pair a colorful blow with a black tunic that is anything but sheer.

Pair a colorful bow with any other loud garments. This will bring negative attention to your ensemble and give the impression that a rainbow erupted onto your apparel.

Pair an eye catching bow with over-the-top shoes. This will take attention away from the item you want in the spotlight- your bow head-piece.

Pair a bow with material that is exhaustingly different form the material of the bow.
For example: A bow made out of sequins paired with a leather jacket.
A bow made out of lace paired with spandex pants. Especially if the spandex is not black.

As you can see from the image above, various designers are climbing on board with incorporating bows into their collection. How refreshing it is to see that other designers are simulating the bow trend and not pirating the fad.

Our very own Jade Jorda fabulously collaborates a vintage bow with a silver Viscose dress. Combined with Charcoal Black Eye Shadow and a Golden Bronzer, Jade executes a look nothing short of perfection.

Although it is somewhat unclear to make out the bow, which is grazing Jade's lightly colored, fluorescent, blouse is in-fact a necklace, the innovation of this collaboration is uncanny. The bow hangs by thin, delicate golden chains. The black, pointed toe, knee high boots give her look complete fluency.

Another fellow fashionista, Jade's personal best friend, Manon Herrmann Auclair, pairs her Ruby Red Bow with Ruby Red Lipstick . Her white blouse with frills running along the center adds a perfect touch of elegance, which is masterfully combined with the modish, high waisted cut of her opal blue skirt.

This Scottie successfully pulled off his black bow tie with delicate, white button down. To spruce up his outfit the fellow Scottie created a hair style that mixes the elements of funky and posh. Kudos on that one.

A common problem that I encounter quite frequently, as I am sure many of you also run into this conundrum as well, is this: I want to wear an all black ensemble that does not convey the impression that I am going for a look like this:

To avoid the possibility of your outfit being mistaken as a goth simulated getup, here are some tips you may find useful:

When wearing all black (i.e. black tunic, black pants, black jacket) a great way to transform your ominous look into an enticing look is by adding bright accessories.

This can range from: adding brightly color lipsitck (red, pink, lavender, purple) with golden glittery eyeshadow, painting your nails with a flourescent shade, throwing on bright colored heels that make a statement, adding brightly colored purse.

Examples of brightly colored purses that would work well with an all black ensemble:

Although a clutch is a small accessory, one this like this would glam up any seemingly dull outfit
